Samsung Z Flip 8 Release Date: Everything We Know So Far

There’s been a fair amount of excitement recently about the upcoming Samsung Z Fold 8 series, and not just online. Here at the Ghostek offices, we’ve had more than one enthusiastic chat about the new Galaxy smartphones, and there’s a lot to look forward to.

However, we may have neglected the Z Fold 8’s clamshell-style cousin, the Galaxy Z Flip 8. The Z Fold 8 has been taking up most of the oxygen in the room, but the Z Flip 8 isn’t just an ‘also-ran’ phone. It promises to be a remarkable new device.

So, let’s give the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 some attention and try to redress the balance. Here’s what we know.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 Design

The Z Flip 8 is the successor to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7, a “pocket-sized AI powerhouse” that was released last year. We were very impressed by the Z Flip 7, but the newer version has the potential to be even better.

As first reported in a leak by the Korean blogger Lanzuk, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 won’t be getting a major overhaul, but this is a positive sign. Samsung is focusing on refining the existing design rather than redoing it. Some of the alterations include:

  • A thinner hinge: The hinge mechanism is said to be 10% thinner. It’ll have improved pocketability without sacrificing durability, and is rated for 200,000 folds.

  • Less weight: The Z Flip 7 weighed 188g, which wasn’t exactly heavy, but the Z Flip 8 is 38g lighter. It’s said to only weigh 150g.

  • A slimmer profile: You’ll notice the weight loss when you look at the Z Flip 8 side-on. The leak shows a potential size of 12.3mm when folded, compared to 13.7mm for the Z Flip 7.

Z Flip 8 Performance Upgrades

The looks aren’t the only difference, as there are likely to be several performance upgrades to make the Z Flip 8 more user-friendly. Arguably, the most notable is the different chipset.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 is rumored to include a custom version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. This is especially eyebrow-raising, as the previous phone didn’t; it used the Exynos 2500 chip instead. This was a reliable bit of tech, but returning to the Snapdragon series is a big change. These chips are known for their enhanced processing power, so this is a pretty big “under the hood” change.

We’re also expecting the Galaxy Z Flip 8 to retain the 12GB RAM of its older sibling. We’ll know for certain when we get our hands on one and can give it a field test, but these specs heavily suggest that the Z Flip 8 will be a highly efficient multitasker. If you regularly find yourself switching between apps when using your phone, the transition should be as smooth as butter.

Galaxy Z Flip 8 Camera Specifications

According to our website analytics, we always get increased traffic whenever we mention cameras. So, for all the photography enthusiasts who instantly jumped to this section, hello. Here are the expected camera specs for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8:

  • A 50MP main camera

  • A 12MP ultrawide camera

  • A forward-facing 10MP ‘selfie’ camera

If that sounds familiar, it should. The Z Flip 8 camera setup is the same as the previous model. This would mean that Samsung has gone three consecutive years without changing the Flip series camera

And yes, that could be interpreted as a negative, but we’re taking a different view. We took plenty of high-quality, crystal-clear photos with the Z Flip 7 and never had any problems, so why change it? Besides, software optimizations should help improve the Z Flip 8's camera performance.

A big technical overhaul would have been nice, and we understand that hardcore camera lovers might feel let down, but it would also result in a higher price tag. Retaining the same setup should mean you don’t have to dig as deep into your finances to cover an upgrade. And speaking of price increases…

Pricing and Release for the Galaxy Z Flip 8

How much is it going to cost? At the time of writing, it’s expected to retail for $949.99. That’s not the most troubling figure. We’ve seen more account-stretching prices before, but it is an increase on the previous model

We’re expecting the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 to reach the shelves around late July to early August. Samsung has historically followed a rigid mid-summer release for its foldable phones, so we should see the Z Flip 8 around the same time as the upcoming Z Fold 8 series.

This summer’s Galaxy Unpacked event is yet to be officially announced, but it is rumored to be taking place in London in the second week of July. Based on prior experience, this event should include the unveiling of the Galaxy Z Flip 8, followed by a two-week wait before it goes on sale to the public. If this year’s release schedule aligns with previous examples, this gives us a likely date of July 22nd, 2026.

Hey Ghostek, You Haven’t Mentioned the Z Flip 8 Battery

Yes, yes…we’re getting to it. Let’s round up our collection of internet rumors by checking in with the battery department. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is expected to feature a 4,300mAh battery.

This is the same capacity as the Z Flip 7, albeit with the charge across two cells with capacities of 1,150mAh and 3,024mAh. The Z Flip 7 battery capacity featured a similar split (it had cells of 1,189mAh and 2,985mAh), but realistically speaking, this won’t make much of a difference.

The power capacity might remain unchanged, but with the changes to the chip and hardware optimizations, it seems reasonable to expect a longer battery life from the Galaxy Z Flip 8. The Z Flip 7 delivered approximately 31 hours of video playback (per official testing), and we’re expecting the Z Flip 8 to outdo that.

Lastly, there’s the charging. We’re expecting to get 25W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. You shouldn’t be left waiting too long to recharge your Z Flip 8 when it runs out of power.

Samsung Z Flip 8: A Stylish Folding Phone

It’s only a few months until the (possible) launch date, and we’re keen to try out the new Galaxy folding phones. The Z Flip 8 is just one of the devices set for a July release, and it looks to be a busy summer. To whet your appetite before then, why not explore our various cases and accessories for Galaxy’s Flip line smartphones? A stylish new shockproof case could be just the thing.
