How to Calibrate the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra S Pen
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra was announced during January 2025’s Galaxy Unpacked event, as part of the newest flagship lineup. Launching less than a month later on February 7, this premium device contains the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. It features a 45% performance boost for faster Galaxy AI processing and long-lasting battery life.
The S25 Ultra also keeps the 200MP Main camera, while upgrading the Ultra-Wide lens to an impressive 50 MP — enhanced by the most advanced AI ProVisual Engine yet.
As we can see, this device contributes plenty of new additions to the Galaxy S premium lineup. But one feature that remains is the iconic S Pen, a unique stylus with a corresponding storage slot built into every Galaxy S phone.
However, what has changed is the method for connecting and using your S Pen. In this article, we’ll explain how to make the most of the S25 Ultra S Pen, where Bluetooth functionality fits in among the changes, and how to resolve some common calibration issues.
Is the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra S Pen Bluetooth Compatible?
At Galaxy Unpacked, Samsung announced that a Bluetooth S Pen was no longer available.
Previous Galaxy S devices have featured S Pens with natural Bluetooth connectivity, or Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), enabling functions like remote photo taking and Air actions. These are a set of controls allowing you to open apps, browse photos, take screenshots, turn music on, and more.

The S25 Ultra can’t be used with the S Pen Pro or any other Bluetooth-enabled stylus, either, which are sold separately.
The decision has caused both disappointment and concern among Samsung Galaxy fans. Does this set the precedent for further streamlining, including removing the S Pen and similar unique features in future? Will Samsung swap its innovation for streamlining and cost-cutting measures?
Why Did Samsung Get Rid of the Bluetooth-Enabled S Pen?
Shortly after announcing the departure of the Bluetooth-enabled S Pen, Samsung did appear to make a u-turn in a post on its Insights page. One blog post claimed that the stylus could act “as a remote control within selected apps to help maximize productivity.”
However, it’s since been confirmed that this was an error and that Samsung, unfortunately, isn’t planning on selling a separate Bluetooth S Pen. But why did they get rid of it in the first place?
According to a Samsung survey, less than 1% of Galaxy S owners used the Bluetooth functionality, making it a redundant feature. The decision was also made for space-saving reasons by the manufacturer, helping to create a slimmer, less bulky, more ergonomic design for the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
These changes would potentially leave more room for upgraded internal components that provide better functionality, too, from a larger battery to higher-quality camera sensors. This is especially important in today’s highly competitive smartphone market — particularly with devices like the Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max around!
How to Connect the Galaxy S25 Ultra S Pen
Unfortunately, users of Samsung’s latest Galaxy device can no longer benefit from the unique experience provided by the Bluetooth S Pen.
So, now that its capabilities have been streamlined, how does the new stylus work?
With older Galaxy devices, the S Pen would pair automatically. An advanced Bluetooth signal was emitted from the stylus at a very low frequency, meaning it remained connected at all times — no need for constant pairing and unpairing like traditional Bluetooth devices.

If the connection was lost at any point, it could be restored easily by pushing the Pen back into its slot for a few seconds, or pressing the Pairing button for an S Pen Pro.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra S Pen works in a similar way, but without Bluetooth connectivity. It doesn’t require pairing or charging and can be stored inside your phone when not being used.
What Can the Galaxy S25 Ultra S Pen Do?
While remote Air actions are no longer supported by the S25 Ultra Pen, it instead works with Air command. This menu provides a variety of shortcuts to apps and tools compatible with the S Pen, from drawing to note-taking.
Simply remove the S Pen from its dedicated slot and select the Air command icon on the right of the screen. Then, choose one of the following features:
-
AI Select: Use your S Pen to select something on the screen. Draw on it, make GIFs, or generate images.
-
Translate: Select a language and translate any text on the screen.
-
Screen Write: Write or draw on the screen with more accuracy and control.
-
Drawing Assist: Use Galaxy AI features like Portrait Studio to transform your photos into cartoons or artwork. Create images from text descriptions, too!
-
Write on Calendar: Record important dates more easily by writing directly in the Calendar app.
-
PENUP: Make live drawings and artwork in the PENUP app.
-
Magnify: Zoom in on the screen. Simply hover the S Pen over its contents!
Aside from Air command, the S25 Ultra S Pen also continues to offer plenty of convenient writing tools, enhanced by a more precise 1.5mm tip. This includes S Pen to text, which converts your handwriting to text in address bars, search fields, and other areas requiring text input.
Quick notes can also be created at any time by pressing and holding the S Pen’s side button, then tapping your phone screen twice. If you’re worried about losing your S Pen, warning notifications can be enabled too, while sounds and vibrations will also play when the stylus is inserted or removed.
Troubleshooting S Pen Connectivity Issues: How to Calibrate
Although the new S Pen offers a great range of functionalities, many users have continued to experience connectivity and calibration issues, even without Bluetooth.
This can be triggered by anything from hardware damage, often caused by drops or moisture infiltration, to outdated software, making your pen inaccurate or unresponsive.
If you’re struggling with misalignment, when the pointer appears in a different position than where you’re placing it on the screen, try calibrating the S Pen:
-
Open the Phone app and dial #2663 to open the Firmware Version window
-
Tap TSP FW Update (General), which launches the Touch Screen Panel
-
Press WACOM FQ Update (Kernel Binary) and let the update finish
-
Restart your S25 Ultra to apply the update
